RICHMOND, HARRIETTE C.

Harriette C. “Rusty” Rustvang Richmond, 82, of Bowling Green, died Feb. 3, 2010, at the Hospice Center.

The Abercrombie, N.D., native was born May 9, 1927. She was a registered nurse and graduated from St. Luke’s Nursing School as a member of the Cadet Nurses Corps during World War II. After the war, she traveled across the country for five years working in the Red Cross polio wards. She was an avid football fan and enjoyed watching both college and pro football. She was a hard core Florida State “Go Noles” football fan. She also enjoyed reading, knitting and sewing, and she made detailed beaded ornaments that she gave away at Christmas. She loved to play the piano and played organ and piano for church. She retired from Tallahassee Memorial Hospital after working as an RN for more than 44 years. She also worked at The Medical Center from 1971 to 1975. She enjoyed life and was not afraid to try anything new. She went parasailing at 70 years old. She traveled all over with her husband and loved to cruise the Bahamas. She was a daughter of the late Karl Rustvang and Helma Gunness Rustvang and the wife of the late Everett Richmond. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Ista and Norma Hackey; and a brother, Wallace Rustvang.

A celebration of life is from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at J.C. Kirby & Son Funeral Home, Broadway Avenue chapel, with entombment in the Arlington National Cemetery niche, beside her husband.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Survivors include a daughter, Virginia Ellis and her husband, Steve, of Bowling Green; a son, Carl Richmond and his wife, Whitney, of Charlotte, N.C.; a sister, Leone Hagen and her husband, Myron, of Abercrombie; five grandchildren, Melissa and Michelle Ellis and Meredith, Natalie and Samantha Richmond; and several nieces and nephews.
